Remember that time
when we woke up early
to play sport on the freezing ground
layered with ice
our numb toes and hands
as we tried to warm up
landing on the hard ground
hearing the ice
crunch beneath us
sitting in the cold
discussing our game
with our team
then after our game
sitting around the table
eating a hot lamb roast
with roast potatoes
swimming in mint sauce
ready to do it all again next week?
That was winter.

Weekly Blog Reflection

This week we have had Mrs Bryant  for two days, and Mrs Gibson White for 3 days because Mrs Pemberton has broke her leg. Therefore this week was messy. Next week I am looking forward to to cross country.I am proud of my success writing. lately I have made the Bowers cup rugby team which mean I practice to times a week  and play two games every Sunday  and adding to that I am still playing my Saturday rugby which we sometime practise twice a week as well so I am very busy with my rugby.
Success is pride, perseverance, determination and bravery.
Success has no enemies only friends always helping each other.
Success is contagious if determination is around.
Success doesn't believe in failure or cheating.
Success doesn't brag he just encourages.
Success is never seen looking miserable.
His family contains respect, strength, responsibility, and belief.
Success is unstoppable.

Careers Expo

yesterday our team went on a trip to the careers expo held in Clauudelands. I think this trip gave us all ideas about what we want to do after high school. I found some interesting jobs. I also saw how much hard work it would to take. I think I might like to be a mechanic or a butcher.

Have you ever wondered what tectonic plates do? Well tectonic plates are what form the earth's crust that we live on.

There are 15 major plates on the world that can be up to 200 km thick and span thousands of kilometres. There are also some minor plates with a thickness of approximately 15km. Some plates edges can be straight through the middle of countries. Such as in New Zealand the edge of the Australian plate and Pacific plate straight through the middle of the north Island.

There are many different ways for the plates to collide. There are  three main ways they collide causing Friction, friction is what creates pressure and all the drama. The  friction is what creates magma.  The three ways they rub are over and under side to side like when strike a match and colliding like a head on car crash.

The different ways the tectonic plates rub can result in different phenomenon. Some result in forming big hills (volcanoes and mountains) most cause a tsunami, volcanoes erupting and earthquakes.

Tectonic plates are very important and are critical; at any moment the could rub and do some damage.

Term 1 Reflection

This term has been a very exciting term. Including camp, swimming sports, inter house soft ball and triathlon...  my highlight was a mountain biking comp for the school we came second. I think this term I have really excelled in my my writing and math. I found the information changing but I pulled through and wrote a level 4B/ 4P report on term I think should work on my reading. Next term I am look forward for our science fair. Here is this terms student led conference.

Bridges are very strong and are made to create a path over any obstacle. There are lots of different styles of bridges made for different reasons. The materials they use are very interesting and they are often well designed. The history of bridges dates back thousands of years with some very old bridges still standing today.

There are lots of different types of bridges designed carefully for all sort of purposes. The truss bridges are designed for heavy weights and therefore are often used for trains. The beam bridge is normally used for cars to go over and is used for cars or boats to travel under. The arch and cantilever bridges are used to travel over long lengths of water. The suspension and cable stay are very similar bridges and are both used for long spans of land or water.

Material and Planning
Traditionally bridges were built with timber, rope and stone. More recently they use iron, steel and concrete. Bridges take a lot of theses materials and therefore company's value this. A lot of planning goes into bridges involving lots of different engineers testing dirt and material even before the bridge-building begins. The original designer needs a lot of second Apennines. It may take up to seven months to put the final plan on paper and then another   months up to a year until building even starts. A bridge can take up to __ years to build from start to finish.
Bridges have been used for over 3000 years. The first bridges were as simple as fallen trees creating a path over a river or stone pushed up to create a dam-like bridge. Later in time, concrete was introduced to the building world. Now most bridges are made with concrete and iron. The first iron bridge was made in 1779 and was over 100 feet long and used 378 tonnes of metal.

Bridges are used all over world. Their strength is incredible and some are very fantastic pieces of art and are big tourist attractions. Bridges are very important in this world making travel a lot easier.

Weekly Reflection

This week we had student led conferences, I think I displayed the slide well to my parents. I am proud of my conference slideshow, because it had all my goals in and my proud moments in it. My biggest challenge this week was my information report, finding the facts on something new to me and writing a report on it. The report has not been marked yet, so next week I will share my results with you. I think I haved done well at writing reading summaries, and getting three ticks which is the best score. This Thursday, the year 8s went to leadership day so the year 7s were all in rm 12 for the day here is something I did

Bridges project

For the last couple of weeks Zanthe and i have been working to make a bridge out of popstical sticks. This is our process.

Friday, 18 March 2016

This week I think my biggest achievement was my SRA cards this week alone I have completed 9 SRA cards and got 100% on all of them therefore moving up 3 levels. I think my biggest challenge was our bridges this week having to design and learn about the structure of some bridges preparing to make our on bridge out of Popsicle sticks. Next week I am looking forward to lunch time soft ball we are in the finals. I really enjoyed Harold we learnt about how drugs affect us and our bodies.

Friday, 11 March 2016

This week  I found making  a tree diagram my biggest challenge. I overcame this challenge by listening to the teachers and others. Next time I do a tree diagram I will use a ruler.I had lots of fun doing film skills because I had to act and design a short clip using the disappearing act, this is in a previous post.  I think I excelled at my SRA cards getting four stamps and moving up one set. I learnt lots of things this week including a summary. I am excited for our Mountain Biking  competition that is happening next week.
This is a tree digram.

Disappearing act part  two.Today we had another try for disappearing act for tech wise.

My fair inquiry reflection

For our inquiry this term, we had to work together to create a fair stall. the focus was how well we worked together with others.

On the night of the fair, my fair stall made a total profit of $121 I think this went well because we had a line most of the time, we did not have to buy any thing so the set up was free and our back drop was very attractive.

Below are my reflection and a self reflection of how I think I did...
My name: Jay
Other members in my group: Callum marnie madi ben
Our fair stall: toilet toss

Reflection (What went well today? What do I need to do better? What do we need to focus on tomorrow? How could my team work more effectively together next time?): I think we worked well today everyone had something to say and now everyone has a job. We have made a mind map to guide us through this project.

Reflection (What went well today? What do I need to do better? What do we need to focus on tomorrow? How could my team work more effectively together next time?):  Today I don't think we worked very well as a group as there was lots of confusion and not much achieved. Although we still got some important information put on paper.

To the Summit
Hearing the students before me, listening to their excitement. Knowing that it's not far now my determination kicked in, my feet started to move. Faster, longer strides. No control. I was going to get there. The jaw-dropping sights came to me the white fluffy, candyfloss clouds right before my eyes, blue waters in the distance with monstrous rocks greeting us. The tremendous feelings filled my body. Something my eyes had never seen. Nothing I had ever felt. Relief as I made my last step. I made it to the summit.

Empty head.  No words to describe the feeling. Time for lunch, although I was not hungry, at least I thought. I felt like an ant that had just climbed a massive rock. Time to leave. Nervousness excitement yet  readiness to descend as I took one last blink at the summit.
